DEBUT RELEASE: OCTAGYN OUT NOW!
Mikey’s latest recording project, ‘Octagyn,’ is their debut release as leader. Recorded with other members of the Julian Joseph Jazz Academy at the World Heart Beat Music Academy in London, ‘Octagyn’ is a distillation of the thoughts and feelings of a queer musician navigating extended isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It exists ultimately as an expression of rawness and recklessness, embracing the erratic and celebrating the uncertain articulated within lines woven between queerness and jazz. The album draws inspiration from a variety of sources bridging Kenny Garrett, Bheki Mseleku, Freddie Hubbard, Kenny Wheeler, Cedar Walton, Mulgrew Miller, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Yes and Steely Dan, forging a space for both introspection and flamboyance to coexist and coalesce.
'Octagyn' is available as a digital download, CD and limited edition 12" vinyl.
